She will be remembered this weekend at a benefit for her family to defray expenses incurred from this battle.

I knew her as a warm and kind person, always ready to help, with a magnificent voice and great songwriting skills. She will be missed by all in the Mid-South Celtic community. Here is the information on the Benefit in Little Rock this coming Saturday, staged by her friend and former Cairde bandmate Judy Warner, information courtesy of Len Holton and the Little Rock Folk Club:
Long-forgotten memories of betrayal and abandonment burst forth in a shocking revelation: his eight-year-old self was still lost in the orphanage

Although badly shaken, Danny began a courageous journey that would lead him back to the streets of Dublin, to the tenement slums and, eventually, to the brutality of the Artane. His book, The Boy at the Gate, is a profoundly moving memoir and an inspiring testament to the healing power of music and love.

Not only did he write a book, he also wrote songs. This is what people say about his album, 800 Voices:

"There are those rare musicians that are also poets and storytellers who can bend time and space and language so it penetrates into the deepest places of the human soul. Danny Ellis is one, and his music has shattered and embraced me with the severe grace.” William Paul Young, author of The Shack

"800 Voices is a searing testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the depths to which that spirit can sink... A musically healing and lyrically breathtaking debut." The Irish Times

"It may just be the most powerful storytelling through music and stories I have ever experienced. ...a riveting oral memoir ...filled with clear images of pain, hope and humor." Connie Reagan Blake, Storyteller

We are delighted to co-sponsor this concert with Just for Lunch . They are from 7-9 PM every other Tuesday; the next is scheduled on September 24. They have specials on Tuesday night, like 2 for 1 Fish and Chips.

Also, to other pubs in the Mid-South, if you have seisuns on a schedule or will have a live traditional Celtic band playing, please let me know at sjs1959 at Gmail dot com and I will put it up on the Calendar of Good Craic. I want to make this your home for Celtic music and dance information for the Mid-South.
Susan and I had that chance to meet Heather Martin Bixler of those seisuns at Jackson this weekend, and look forward to going tonight. If you enjoy live Celtic music, so should you! they start at 7 on the patio, come on out!

Also, I have checked and edited the links, so we are good to go.

Next event on the calendar is the Southern Illinois Irish Festival in Carbondale on October 4-6, you can find out more at their website!Steve Steffenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08104688163653632284noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4901347418388382581.post-87501846642305087772013-09-10T10:06:00.000-05:002013-09-10T10:06:07.472-05:00Has it really been two years?I guess it has. I met a woman, bought a house, got married, took her to 2012 NTIF and this year's CelticFest Mississippi, where we had a wonderful time. I will try to do better to keep this updated.
The event will take place at Thomsen Hall at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 1818 Reservoir Road in Little Rock, and begins at 7:30 P.M. Eileen Ivers, the headlining violinist for Riverdance, transformed
Irish fiddling from a folk music tradition into an internationally
acclaimed art. A former member of Cherish The Ladies, the Hall &
Oates Band and a session player for Paula Cole, Hothouse Flowers and
Patti Smith, Ivers continues to expand the genre on her own terms. The
eight-time All-Ireland fiddle champion was declared "the future of the
Celtic fiddle" by The Washington Post, and The L.A. Times said that
Ivers' "originality and rhythmic swing may well provide the bridge Irish
music needs to break through to a mainstream audience." Her high-energy
performance and dynamic band will be a grand kick off to the season.

Sorry, there has been a lot going on around here in other aspects, so here we go.

The 20th CelticFest Mississippi
is coming!

All the fundraisers, sponsorships, months of planning, sweating, professional counseling, and lots of Bandaids lead up to the best weekend in Jackson... now 20 years old.

CelticFest began as a way to introduce Mississippians to a genre of folk music and dance that we thought was pretty cool, but that also happens to be quite relevant to Mississippi's history.

What began as a humble labor of love has become a big labor of love, staffed 100% by volunteer workers and with an army of volunteer performers.
The secret is well out, with CelticFest garnering a national reputation amongst musicians and Celtic music fans: Mississippi has a gem of a traditional Celtic music festival (not to mention the largest céilí in the South, and in 2010 set the record for the largest Brush Dance in North America.)
Irish Times says of that album, “There’s enough pristine music tucked inside this solo collection...to power a rocket.” Living Tradition Magazine says “As one might expect from a member of this notorious Irish musical family, Michael Black's debut solo album is furnished throughout with assured and accomplished vocals that are a delight to the ear.
